Luna used to bark every time someone came to our front door. At first, we thought she was just excited, but over time it became stressful for everyone in the house. She would run toward the door, bark loudly, and keep barking even after the visitor came inside.
What helped us most was creating a calm door routine. We started by keeping a small mat near the hallway and teaching Luna to go there whenever the doorbell rang. At first, we practiced without visitors. One person would ring the bell, and another would guide Luna to her mat with a treat.
After a few days, she started understanding that the doorbell meant “go to your mat” instead of “run to the door.” We kept sessions short and rewarded calm behavior every time. It did not fix everything overnight, but after a few weeks, Luna became much calmer when someone arrived.
Now she still notices the door, but she waits on her mat most of the time. The biggest lesson for us was that consistency mattered more than perfection. Small daily practice made a real difference.
